Comprising 12 printed modules, 60 interactive case studies on CD-ROM and a companion website, Medical Masterclass is a versatile study package that helps doctors to improve their medical skills and knowledge, whenever they want to.
Modules
The Medical Masterclass textbooks were developed by the Education Department of
the Royal College of Physicians of London under the editorial direction of Dr John
Firth (Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK), and they
include contributions from over 60 expert physicians. As well as being a distance
learning publication that has been specifically designed to support candidates studying
for the MRCP(UK) examinations, the books are
also useful as a refresher course for practicing physicians, GPs, radiologists and
psychiatrists.
The textbooks are divided into 12 modules covering all areas of medical practice.
The basic science of medicine is covered in two modules; one module covers emergency
medicine; and another deals with general clinical issues, including pain relief,
palliative care and medicine for the elderly. Numerous full colour illustrations,
clinical images and tables support the text; and in total the 12 modules run to
over 2,000 pages and contain 1,800 images.
The other eight modules cover the clinical specialities that appear in the
MRCP(UK) examinations. Each module starts with case studies that define
the core content of a specialty by covering all of their most common clinical presentations;
and then discusses the appropriate clinical approach, history taking, examination,
differential diagnosis, investigations and management for each of them. These case
studies are followed by a section for self-assessment and structured notes on specific
diseases, treatments, investigations and practical procedures.
